It can be difficult figuring out which type of security cover you require. There are many different types of guards, but here are the different types that we offer at Lionheart.

SIA Qualified Guards

The SIA (Security Industry Authority) was created to give licencing and regulation to the security industry. They offer training to those who wish to improve their security skills to become more qualified.

The SIA are there to ensure guards are ‘fit and proper’ to do their job at an acceptable level. SIA operatives are used on licenced, and non-licensed establishments and have more authority than a steward. There are three main licences you can complete to achieve your SIA: Close Protection, Door Supervisor, and Security Guard.

Close protection SIA qualified guards are bodyguards. This type of security is used for protecting a specific person or family. While close protection guards a smaller group or individual, the other qualifications secure an area or establishment.

Door supervisor qualified guards have the power to evict someone from premises, can also be first aid trained and covers key holding. Door Supervisors also can judge any person entering an establishment based on their behaviour and debate if that person should be allowed on the premises. They have training in conflict management, physical intervention, and drug awareness. Door supervisors can work on licenced and non- licenced establishments.

Security guard qualified SIA: these types of guards are used at any non-licenced site such as retail, construction, security reception, etc.

These guards are more customer service based and are normally used at retails sites. They can do queue marshalling, retail, events, etc. You would request a steward usually if your establishment requires a guard with a customer service role. Stewards help to enforce rules, manage crowds, and act as a deterrent.

We hope this post has answered some of your questions about the world of guarding. If you have any more specific questions and need more help in choosing the right service for you, give our office a call and we would be happy to have a free no-obligation discussion to see what your needs are.

Lionheart Security Services are constantly hiring, and we like to think we are experts on hiring the best security guards around.

We are a security company who are based in the West Midlands. We have staff all over the country and have over 30 years of combined experience. With a team of over 200 staff, there isn’t much in the Security industry that we haven’t experienced. We work events nationwide and we don’t let location stop us from getting the job done!

Our process is pretty simple, if you are interested in starting out in the security industry there are several ways to get started.

Step One: Enquire our available roles.

We have many candidates start this process in different ways, we are available to chat online Monday to Friday. We also have people reach out to us via our website. But the best way is to apply through our roles directly on our Lionheart Recruitment Services Facebook page for each role. We ask for you to make sure when applying/messaging us to include your name and phone number so we can get back to you as quickly as possible! Like our recruitment Facebook page to keep up to date with all of our vacancies.

Step Two: Speak to one of our recruitment staff

Shortly after we review your application, we have our recruitment team call you to discuss the role further. They will then set up an interview date. This allows them to get to know you a bit better before setting up the interview time.

Step Three: Interview

Before COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, we would ask you to come to visit our office in Wolverhampton. We now conduct these interviews over the phone. Our team ask about your previous experience and discuss any qualifications you have.

Flexibility is key when applying for a security position, we see a lot of people with decent experience and good communication skills but are only willing to work one area or only night shifts for example.

When applying, a flexible approach is best. The more flexibility, the more chances you have for being booked on for shifts.

Step Four: Booking you in for shifts.

Congratulations! If you are successful, our admin team will process your information and refer to the recruitment teams notes for our bookings system.

Once the application pack has been processed, our bookings team will search our systems through keywords such as location, qualifications, and availabilities. This allows them to find the right people for the right shift.

So, here are the main things our recruitment team are looking for:

1. Flexibility

2. Communication

3. Positive attitude

As you can see from that list security experience is not required! We do work alongside SainTs training, which offers free security training. We hire many staff who do their training with SainTs, and it is a great affordable way to become more qualified within the security industry.

Retail sites such as Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Waitrose have announced they will refuse entry for customers not wearing masks unless they are medically exempt.

Several sites will have extra security staff to provide support. Some shops such as Morrisons and Asda will provide a free mask if needed. Those only that are medically exempt will be allowed to shop without a mask.

The chains are also encouraging customers to shop on their own if they can, as this would reduce the number of people shopping to make a safer shopping experience.

Chief executive of Sainsbury's Simon Roberts said: “I’ve spent a lot of time in our stores reviewing the latest situation over the last few days and on behalf of all my colleagues, I am asking our customers to help us keep everyone safe.

“The vast majority of customers are shopping safely, but I have also seen some customers trying to

shop without a mask and shopping in larger family groups.

“Please help us to keep all our colleagues and customers safe by always wearing a mask and by shopping alone. Everyone’s care and consideration matters now more than ever.”

Lionheart Security Services LTD would like to reassure our staff, clients and their customers that we will be taking measures to ensure both public safety and safety of our staff.

We provide security for many retail sites such as Morrisons, Waitrose, Asda, and more. If you need security for your retail site give our team a call on 01902 256020.
